Get Active – National Schemes
There are lots of national campaigns and schemes to help you get active…
Active 10
The Active 10 app records every minute of walking you do – just pop your phone in your pocket and away you go. Did you know walking briskly, even for 1 minute, counts as exercise? What are you waiting for – take your first steps today!
The app:
-tracks your steps
– helps you set goals
-shows you your achievements
-gives you tips to boost your activity
Being active is vital for us to stay healthy, both physically and mentally. Walking is a free and easy way for many people to incorporate physical activity into daily life.
A brisk 10-minute walk is a great example of a small change you can make to your day to build up your activity.
Healthier Families (formally Change 4 Life)
Change4Life aims to help families lead healthier lives by providing support and ideas for healthy eating and ways to stay active. Check out the links below for more information.
Shake up
Children can get active with Change4Lifes Shake Up activities. The Disney-inspired games can help children to get active for 60 minutes a day with 10-minute bursts of active fun, inspired by their favourite characters. Be strong like Mr Incredible, agile like Simba, or build your stamina with Elsa.

This Girl Can
This Girl Can is a Sport England campaign aimed to encourage women to take part in physical activity. No one gets to choose how you exercise other than you. And whatever that looks like, we think its worth celebrating! This Girl Can believes that there’s no ‘right’ way to get active. However you jiggle, kick, lift, stretch or sprint, its time to get moving.
Visit the This Girl Can website to find an activity to suit you, read inspirational stories and meet the girls.
We Are Undefeatable
We Are Undefeatable aims to encourage those living with one or more long-term health conditions to try to get more active.
The campaign hopes to inspire, reassure and support people to be active by showing the real-life experiences of people living with a variety of conditions – both visible and invisible – on their own journeys to being active.
Being physically active can help people manage long term conditions such as:
• Depression and anxiety
• Cognitive functioning impairment in dementia and Alzheimer’s
• Multiple sclerosis and other mobility-limiting conditions
• Chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD)
• Heart disease, stroke and other heart conditions
• Breast, lung, prostate or bowel cancer
• Arthritis and back pain
• Types 1 and 2 diabetes
• Asthma
