Food and Nutrition at School
Children in the U.K have a very low intake of fruit and vegetables, and a high intake of foods high in saturated fats, salt, and sugar. Unfortunately, this is the opposite of what is recommended, and it is becoming normalised.
School Governors, teachers, and parents/carers all play a role in teaching and promoting healthy eating to children. Working with the school environment, community and school curriculum supports a ‘whole-school approach’ to promoting healthy eating.
The North Somerset Healthy Schools Network can support your school to promote healthy food. Please visit their webpage to find out how they can support your school.
