Nicotine Replacement Therapy

A safe clean form of Nicotine, without all the other chemicals that are in Tobacco. Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is the term used to describe the range of products that deliver therapeutic (pure) nicotine to relieve the withdrawal symptoms smokers experience when they quit. All the stop smoking medications described in this section have all been approved by NICE to help people stop smoking. Using NRT doubles the chance of quitting by reducing the number and intensity of cravings (desire to smoke). It’s available through Smokefree North Somerset vouchers (prescription), over the counter and on general sale.

Zyban (Bupropion)

Zyban is a non‑nicotine preparation which reduces the urge to smoke by inhibiting re‑uptake of dopamine and noradrenaline in the brain. It is an antidepressant, but it’s smoking cessation properties are unrelated to it’s antidepressant effects, and it is licensed in the UK only as a smoking cessation aid
