Donate for Defib
Donate for Defib is a new project for Weston-super-Mare, first established at the end of August 2023.
The project aims to raise funds for defibrillators to be publicly accessible outside each public house, hotel, restaurant, community centre, health centre (Doctors Surgeries and Dental Practices), church, village hall, and gym in Weston-super-Mare.
CPR and defibrillation are a vital part of the chain of survival before an ambulance arrives, and can increase the chances of surviving a cardiac arrest from less than one in 10 to more than seven in 10.
To reduce avoidable and needless deaths, Donate for Defib’s goal is that anyone who suffers a cardiac arrest will receive immediate CPR and then defibrillation within five minutes. Each 1-minute delay decreases their survival chances by another 10 percent, so defibrillators need to be close by, publicly available, and used.
Donate for Defib are proudly working in partnership with Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC) and they have recently created a fundraising page called Enthuse which can be viewed at this link: https://greatwesternairambulance.enthuse.com/cf/donate4defibs
All the defibrillators will be registered with The Circuit App for both the Local and National Ambulance Services to be made aware of where defibrillators are located.
Each Defibrillator costs £1,705 which includes making this publicly accessible, 24/7, but in the instance of a location already having a Defibrillator, the price of just the external cabinet will be £600 which they can support funding for.
