NEW! Ageing Well and Transport Forum for North Somerset Residents Aged 65+

Happy New Year!
You are warmly invited to a very important event designed specifically for residents aged 65 and over who live in North Somerset, including Weston, Worle, and the surrounding villages. This forum will focus on transport issues that directly affect older residents in our community and will provide practical solutions to help maintain independence and connection.
Event Details:
  • Date: Monday, 3rd February 2025
  • Time: 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM (refreshments provided)
  • Venue: Worle Community Centre, Lawrence Road, Weston-Super-Mare, BS22 6TN
This forum is part of Improving Ageing in North Somerset (IANS), a 5-year project funded by the National Lottery to enhance the lives of older people in our area. Transport has been identified as a key issue in the State of Ageing in North Somerset report by Voluntary Action, and this event is a crucial step in addressing these challenges.
We’re thrilled to have an excellent line up of speakers who will provide valuable insights into transport and ageing:
  • George Burton – Head of Network, First Bus, who will share plans for improving bus services and accessibility.
  • Steve Ledbrook – Chair, Disabled Access Group, North Somerset Council, who will discuss strategies for making transport more inclusive.
  • Ilyas Hafezji – Operations Manager, First Bus Weston-Super-Mare, who will offer practical insights into the day-to-day operations of local transport.
  • Councillor Thomas Daw – Member of the Licensing Committee and Transport, Climate, and Communities Policy and Scrutiny Panel, who will outline the council’s initiatives to address transport challenges.
Reliable transport is essential for older residents to attend medical appointments, engage in social activities, and stay connected with their communities. This forum is your chance to:
  • Hear directly from decision-makers and experts about efforts to improve transport for older people in North Somerset.
  • Share your experiences and insights to help shape practical solutions.
  • Learn more about resources and initiatives designed to support independence and active ageing.
This forum is specifically for North Somerset residents aged 65+, so if you or someone you know fits this group, please join us. Feel free to share this invitation with others in your area. The more voices we have, the stronger our message to those making decisions about transport in North Somerset.
If you have any questions or need further information, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I’m looking forward to welcoming you to this informative and impactful event.
